Effects of Insomnia and Alcohol
Sleep disorders are getting common these days. Did you know that about 40 million Americans are suffering from the chronic long-term sleeping disorders? There are several causes for sleeping disorders, such as dysfunctional sleep mechanism and certain abnormal physiological function while sleeping. Sleeping disorders have been categorized into four categories. They are primary sleep disorders, sleep disorders due to mental disorders, sleep disorders due to medication and sleep disorders that are substance-induced. In substance-induced Insomnia alchohal is a major culprit. The normal sleep patterns are generally interrupted by alcohol. The reason alcohol disrupts sleep patterns is that it disturbs the neurotransmitters of the brain. These neurotransmitters are located in the brain. They are one of the major causes of sleep. Thus, in such cases of Insomnia alchohal intake has to be gradually reduced.
Usually, it is considered that intake of small quantity of alcohol acts as a sedative. It causes drowsiness in the person. However, do not consider alcohol as an effective sedative. Alcohol has its own side effects. These side effects occurring due to alcohol are extremely harmful for health. Moreover, alcohol also effects the natural sleep cycle. It leads to frequent arousals at night and as such, fragmented sleep may occur. In addition, the later part of your sleep is badly affected as well. Moreover, if you are consuming alcohol regularly, its sedative effect will also diminish. Thus, as a means to cure Insomnia alchohal can have a bad effect on your health.
Alcohol also causes sleep apnea. In Sleep apnea, you will experience stoppage of breathing while sleeping. This is due to narrow upper air passage. Thus, the person awakes several times to take oxygen. The depressant effect of alcohol harms the muscles of the air passage. Thus, if you are trying to cure Insomnia alchohal is not the answer. Snoring and sleep quality are inversely proportional to each other. If the amount of snoring increases, the quality of sleep decreases. Thus, try to avoid alcohol, if you want to get rid of sleep disorder.
