History of Narcolepsy Symptoms and Narcolepsy
The History of Narcolepsy symptoms and Narcolepsy can be traced back to Germany. Westphal (1867) and Fisher (1878) described in their two reports that there was a link between weakening of muscles triggered by excitement and sleepiness. The root cause of Narcolepsy in both these patients reported was inheritance. Later, several treatments were also invented. You face severe fatigue, along with excessive daytime sleepiness, after a proper night sleep. The person suffering from Narcolepsy sleeps even during daytime. Major causes of Narcolepsy are the brain waves in human beings. These brain waves work rhythmically, when a person is awake. However, they become slower, when a person is sleeping. These brain waves do not function adequately in a person suffering from Narcolepsy. People often believe that inadequate night sleep is the cause for daytime sleeping. However, in case of narcolepsy this belief is completely wrong. History of narcolepsy symptoms and narcolepsy gives clear evidences against this belief. Patients of narcolepsy suffer from unbearable sleep attacks during daytime and these sleeping attacks come several times in a day. Moreover, frequent arousals lead to fragmented night sleep.
Another typical symptom of narcolepsy is episodes of muscle-function loss such as limp neck or knees, drooping facial muscles or unclear speech. At a serious level there could total body collapse. These attacks are triggered by emotions like anger, laughter, fear or surprise. The said symptoms could last from a few seconds to a few minutes. The person however remains conscious through the entire episode of the attack. Frightening dreams or hallucinations are also one of the several rare symptoms of Narcolepsy. History of Narcolepsy symptoms and Narcolepsy shows that a person going through a sleep attack may experience hallucinations or frightening dreams. Daytime sleeping, hallucinations or frightening dreams can occur in a person not suffering from narcolepsy also. The cause of these symptoms in a normal person is inadequate night sleep.
